Strata ships first Airbus composite components

Strata, based in the United Arab Emirates, has shipped its first composite flap track fairings to Airbus for use in A330 and A340 aircraft.

Online news service Arabian Aerospace reported on July 3 that composites aerostructures manufacturer Strata (Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, UAE) has shipped its first consignment of parts to Airbus for use in A330/A340 aircraft.

The report says Strata shipped the first wing parts — flap track fairings — 12 months after the completion of the company's 21,600m2/232,500-ft2 facility. The contract is part of a $2.7 billion (USD) order book it has secured from Airbus and other companies.

Strata, wholly owned by Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Development, is seeking to become a Tier 1 Airbus supplier, and by mid-2012 to become the only supplier of advanced carbon fiber composite aileron panels for A330/A340 aircraft.

Homaid Al Shemmari, chairman of Strata and executive director, Mubadala Aerospace, said in the report, "Our partners are critical to supporting our vision of building an integrated knowledge-driven Aerospace hub in Abu Dhabi. “It is sustainable businesses such as Strata that are helping to deliver opportunities for skilled UAE nationals, which is at the heart of Mubadala's mission.”
