On Feb. 5, the Society of Plastics Engineers’ (SPE, Brookfield, Conn.) Thermoset Division announced Don Briggs, president of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Assn. (LOGA, Baton Rouge. La.), as one of the keynote speakers during the 2013 Thermoset and Composite Divisions’ Topical Conference (TOPCON, Feb. 26-27) in New Orleans, La. Briggs will address the composites industry and discuss trends, the future of oil and gas, and what areas will be affected both positively and negatively.
Briggs is a native of Miami, Fla., and a 1964 graduate of the University of Southwest Lousiana (USL, Lafayette, La.). He began his career in the oil and gas industry while a student at USL, with Owen Drilling Co. (Magnolia, Ark.). He has been actively involved in the oil and gas industry ever since, during a career that has spanned 45 years. Don is the father of four and has been a resident of Lafayette for more than 40 years. In October of 1992, he stepped away from his service company business in Lafayette to organize LOGA (formerly LIOGA). He believed that if the oil and gas industry was to "survive under the onslaught of the many bureaucratic state and federal agencies," the industry needed to be represented in Baton Rouge. LOGA is an independent oil and gas association that represents exploration, production and service-sector companies thatoperate in Louisiana. For further information, visit www.loga.com.
The SPE Thermoset Division is dedicated to the advancement and promotion of thermosetting materials, processes, machinery and applied uses. The Division’s annual TOPCON event brings together experts that represent a wide variety of thermoset-related vocations. This event is attended by OEMs, raw material suppliers, designers and engineers. Topics to be addressed during this annual conference are LED lighting, composites, structural plastics, transportation, lightweighting, corrosion-resistance and emerging markets. For the first time ever, the thermoset industry has created an “Introduction to Thermosets” training course, which will be offered prior to the conference. This course will begin Feb. 25, 2013, and will take place from 12:00 to 5:30 p.m.
