Composite materials supplier SP, the marine business of Gurit (Isle of Wight, U.K.) reported on Oct. 26 that its materials were chosen for use in the structural ribs of a new tender by Superyacht Tenders Ltd. (Isle of Wight, U.K.)
Superyacht Tenders specialises in the production of custom and semi-custom tenders and pride itself on providing a blend of innovative design with expert build and delivery, resulting in a finish of exceptional precision. SP provided core, laminate and epoxy materials to help create two 7.5m/25.6-ft ribs and a new Lloyds-tested, MCA-compliant superyacht tender.
With fire protection being a key element in the build of the tender, ST70FR (a fire-retardant hot melt, Diuron-free epoxy SPRINT) was an key ingredient in the development of the tender. Known for its good handling characteristics and breathable nature, the SPRINT format reportedly results in high-quality, low-void content laminates.
Working in close partnership with SP, the team manufactured the hull, which successfully endured a series of demanding tests including fire resistance, using a combination of ST70FR, PVC core and Ampreg 21. Further use of Ampreg 21 in the manufacturing of the two 7.5m ribs reduced production time due to the lower viscosity and good cure progression.
Paul Jennings, managing director of Superyacht Tenders Ltd., said: "Using Ampreg 21 delivered significant benefits in our production with reduced build times and good health and safety characteristics, whilst the handling and processing qualities of ST70FR made it ideal for the manufacture of the MCA-compliant Superyacht tender."
