Carbon fiber manufacturer SGL Group (Wiesbaden, Germany) has acquired a 51 percent share of Abeking & Rasmussen Rotec GmbH & Co KG (Lemwerder, Germany), a large manufacturer of rotor blades for wind turbines. Subject to the approval of the German antitrust authorities, the acquisition will permit SGL Group to assume managerial responsibility for the joint venture, which will operate under the new name SGL Rotec GmbH & Co KG. The acquisition's goal, says SGL, is to position SGL Rotec as a leading rotor blade manufacturer and to expand into wind energy growth markets, such as China, India, Turkey, and North America, by establishing local production sites.
