Herald reported on Nov. 14 that carbon fiber manufacturer SGL Group (Wiesbaden, Germany) is expanding its Evanston, Wyo., facility with the addition of a new 120,000-sq-ft/11,148-sq-m building that will, according to the report, double the company's current operations.
The report says the expansion includes a new carbon fiber manufacturing line with four new ovens, representing an investment of $30 million. The expansion leaves room for two more lines, which could be added in the next two years.
Production on the new line is expected to start in first quarter 2009. Operations support manager Ron Wild told the newspaper that if current expansion plans continue, the Evanston facilities will produce about 4,000 metric tons of carbon fiber annually and employ about 120 people.
