Scott Bader adhesive approved for yacht core bonding
Italian certification agency RINA SpA has approved Scott Bader's Crystic Crestomer 1196PA adhesive for use in composite leisure craft deck and hull construction.
Italian certification agency RINA SpA has approved Scott Bader's (Northamptonshire, U.K.) Crystic Crestomer 1196PA adhesive for use in composite leisure craft deck and hull construction, built under RINA certification. This approval is for use as a structural adhesive to bond cores and skin laminates in sandwich structures.
Laminate test pieces bonded with Crystic Crestomer 1196PA underwent a flatwise tensile test (to ASTM D 1623) and a sandwich shear test (to ASTM C 273). The RINA strength requirements were satisfied, even after the test pieces had undergone two cycles of laboratory aging under the ASTM D 1183 Type “D” test conditions; each aging cycle takes a week to complete, during which the bonded test pieces are exposed to extremes of temperature from 71°C to -57°C (160°F to -71°F), different humidity conditions and prolonged periods immersed in salt water.
