RocTool (Le Bourget du Lac, France) has announced that its Cage System for fast-heating and fast-cooling of molds for composites applications has been adapted for plastic injection molding.

“What was unthinkable in plastic injection is now a reality using this new procedure”, declared Alex Guichard, CEO of RocTool. The company says its technology allows the production of very thin parts, non-visible weld lines and a 30 to 50 percent reduction in pressure.

RocTool says it had planned to launch the injection molding product in 2010, but moved up the introduction following new technological developments. The company says it has molded a 1-mm thick prototype part using a material that is normally difficult to mold at less than 2.5 mm. RocTool is targeting automotive parts (panel work and interior), TV and computer accessories, telephones and other parts where surface quality is essential.
