Quickstep to make carbon fiber air intakes for Ford Falcon XR6 Sprint

The deal with Ford represents the first automotive OEM contract for Australia-based Quickstep Holdings.

Advanced manufacturing company Quickstep Holdings (Sydney, Australia) on Feb. 16 announced that it has received full global signoff from the Ford Motor Co. (Dearborn, MI, US) to manufacture the carbon fiber composite air duct for the Ford Falcon XR6 Sprint. Ford is Quickstep’s first automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) client.

The Falcon XR6 Sprint will be the first global mass-produced Ford to feature a carbon fiber air intake system. The air intake system was designed by Premcar, engineered and tested by Ford, and manufactured by Quickstep Automotive. It will be manufactured at Quickstep’s Waurn Ponds (Australia) automotive facility and production has now commenced.

Quickstep managing director, David Marino, says, "We are delighted to work with Ford on its groundbreaking technology. During design and development we qualified materials, resins and processes that replace a thick‐walled, injection molding plastic component with a very thin-walled carbon fiber part. We are excited by this signature contract and believe the automotive growth opportunities for Quickstep will be significant.”
