The composites industry is mourning the passing on Nov. 28 of Kenji Iizuka, a composites veteran who made name for himself as a carbon fiber, fabrics and preforms expert.
Iizuka was a graduate of Kyoto University where he specialized in textile technology. His industrial career was at Itochu where he had prime responsibility for several major commercial textile projects, and for the company’s interests in advanced fibers and composites.
After retiring from Itochu, Iizuka established a private consulting firm, Iizuka Technosystems Inc. This firm has been involved in the marketing and technology for carbon fiber and converted products (fabrics, performs, and prepregs) for a number of companies worldwide. His consulting work also includes marketing and sales of advanced fiber composites products for aerospace, sporting goods, automotive, and industrial applications. Specifically, he is well acquainted with key persons at Tier 1 composite component suppliers to the Japanese automotive OEMs.
Iizuka was an active member of the Japan Chapter of SAMPE, where he also served as a director. In this capacity he organized numerous conferences on advanced composites, and he lectured worldwide on this subject.
