A new wind turbine blade manufacturer, Power Composites (Wieringerwerf, The Netherlands) and PowerWind (Hamburg, Germany) announced on Dec. 18, 2009, that Power Composites has been awarded a supply contract for the manufacture and delivery of rotor blades to support more than 200 MW of PowerWind’s turbine installations in the European market by 2012. PowerWind secured the rotor blade supply chain capacity to support its wind energy growth forecast for 2010.

Nico Bolleman, Power Composites CEO, says, “The cooperation with our key customer PowerWind is a major contribution to the development of Power Composites and will support our rotor blade engineering, manufacturing and supply activities at our Technology Centre in Wieringerwerf, The Netherlands, and our manufacturing facility in Genk, Belgium.” The Power Composites Group was established in the fall of 2009 and subsequently acquired the key assets of the former Polymarin Holding BV, a Dutch rotor blade manufacturer. A manufacturing facility in Belgium is slated for production startup in first quarter this year.

PowerWind GmbH produces wind turbines with rated outputs of 900 kW and 2.5 MW. Its 900-kW PowerWind 56 wind turbine has been in series production since January 2008 at the company’s facility in Bremerhaven. Series production of the 2.5-MW PowerWind 90 wind turbine, unveiled in March 2009, will begin this year.
