New carbon fiber plant coming to Colorado

News reports out of Windsor, Colo., indicate that an unidentified carbon fiber manufacturer is considering locating a facility there, near a Vestas wind blade production plant.

The Windsor (Colo.) Beacon reported on Nov. 1 that representatives of the Great Western Industrial Park -- located in Windsor and home to a Vestas wind blade manufacturing facility -- have presented to the Windsor town board a site plan for a fourth filing, including a plan for a new production facility for a carbon fiber manufacturer.

The carbon fiber manufacturer was not identified. “Hopefully the company who will be occupying the building will be ready to issue a press release soon,” said Great Western president John Lyda in the Beacon report.

The story says the site measures 5.3 acres and will house a 99,248-sq-ft/9,220-sq-m facility. It says the new facility employ about 70 people to produce carbon fiber fabric for aerospace and renewable energy applications.

“The tenant is entering into a long-term lease with Great Western, but they hope to eventually become more connected to Windsor,” Lyda said.
