Norplex-Micarta expands quality assurance lab; Performance Composites earns ISO 9001 certification; STRUCTeam opens Warsaw office; Richmond Aircraft Products recommended for certification to AS9100 Rev. C.; ATL Composites updates website.

Norplex-Micarta (Postville, Iowa, USA), a manufacturer of high-performance thermoset composites, on Sept. 28 announced the expansion of its in-house material testing laboratory. The 20 percent increase in laboratory work space, says the company, shows the firm's commitment to offering its customers premium testing and manufacturing services. The laboratory saves customers significantly on the cost to test materials while also performing the tests in a timely manner, often within one week. In comparison, says Norplex-Micarta, many other laboratories may have a three- to five-week lead time and higher testing charges. The laboratory has the ability to test to recognized specifications such as military, NEMA or ASTM D, customer-written specifications and many other widely used standards.

Performance Composites Inc. (Compton, Calif., USA), a manufacturer of fiberglass composite products, reported on Sept. 19 that it has been approved for ISO 9001 certification by International Standards Authority Inc. For Performance Composites, the receipt of ISO 9001 certification, the most widely recognized international standard for quality management systems, is an important step in continually improving product quality and reliability. “This is an important milestone for PCI,” says president of Performance Composites Inc., Francis Hu. “Our reputation as a provider of high quality products and outstanding customer service is further enhanced by achieving ISO certification. This is a clear sign that we are committed to continually improving our quality management systems in order to meet the needs of the medical, security, and mass transportation markets.”

Composites engineering consultancy STRUCTeam Ltd. (Cowes, Isle of Wight, U.K.) reported on Sept. 23 that it has opened a new office in Warsaw, Poland. The office has been set up to house both engineering and IT development functions for STRUCTeam Ltd. that will complement the established operation in the U.K. Radek Michalik, technical director, says, “Warsaw has wealth of IT and engineering resource coming from the various high caliber universities and technical institutions located here. Through establishing a centrally located office in Warsaw, we aim to continue to attract capable and aspirational engineers and IT development specialists in order to provide a cost effective resource centre for our engineering activities that serve STRUCTeam’s global customers and projects.”

Umeco Composites Process Materials’ operation in the U.S., Richmond Aircraft Products Inc. (Santa Fe Springs, Calif., USA) announced on Oct. 3 that following an audit, the company has been recommended for certification to AS9100 Rev. C. This standard is the quality management system (QMS) for the aviation, space, and defence industries developed by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG). The overall objective of AS9100C is aimed at improving product quality and on-time delivery.

ATL Composites (Molendinar, Australia) on Sept. 28 announced the launch of an updated website ( specifically dedicated to its DuFLEX Composite Panels. The site includes updated information on the DuFLEX Construction System including new projects, an expanded technical data section, and more comprehensive application techniques,  in addition to downloadable data sheets and an instruction video on joining the DuFLEX panels with the company's proprietary Z-Press.
