The University of Southern Mississippi School of Polymers and High Performance Materials announced on May 3 that it is continuing its online Masters of Polymer Science Engineering with an emphasis in Composites Engineering.

This degree is specifically targeted for working professionals, primarily engineers and technical research staff, employed in the polymer composites industry (the program is not offered at this time to unemployed students).

The program was developed in response to workforce requirements of the Universities' composite research partners including Boeing, Northrop Grumman, ATK, GE Aviation, AFOSR, ONR, and others. The rapid transformation of metals to composites has created a professional level workforce retraining requirement for the industry, and this program is designed to provide a comprehensive science-based composites learning curriculum. The online degree program is asynchronous, meaning coursework is designed to accommodate working professionals. The six-semester program provides for continuous new student enrollments in the fall, spring and summer semesters.

Southern Miss is a recognized global leader of Polymer Science and Engineering education and is said to be the first university in the the U.S. to offer an online M. Sc. specific to composites engineering workforce training.
