The LOMOLD Group (Cape Town, South Africa) has celebrated the official opening of the first ever LOMOLD production machine in South Africa. The culmination of 15 years of research and development, this LOMOLD machine represents the first step in a new era as the technological advances that have been made are transformed into commercially active ventures. LOMOLD has developed a process for the high-speed manufacture of thermoplastic-reinforced composite pallets.

Representatives from the major financial institutions, the Department of Trade and Industry and strategic partners joined the LOMOLD family in Bellville South, Cape Town. Pieter du Toit, CEO of the LOMOLD Group, opened the ceremony by expressing his gratitude to the partners, employees, shareholders, organizations, companies and individuals that have made the journey possible, and concluded with a short overview of the Group and what the potential for job creation, growth and continued innovation is in the context of the South African environment. The attendees then proceeded to the LOMOLD machine, where the process and production of the thermoplastic-reinforced composite pallets were showcased.

With production capacity exceeding 30,000 pallets per month, the LOMOLDER currently produces a Euro-size (1,200 mm by 800 mm) pallet for both the South African and European markets (the Euro-size pallet can be extended to a 1200 mm by 1000 mm pallet). Meeting ISO-8611 Standards, the LOMOLD Pallet can perform edge-racking and dynamic loads exceeding 1,200 kg/2,646 lb, while weighing less than 11 kg/24 lb, making it the lightest, strongest pallet in the world.
