JRL Ventures, Inc./Marine Concepts (Sarasota, Fla. and Cape Coral, Fla.) hosted a two day, "Advances in Autoclave Technologies" workshop presented by the Closed Mold Alliance, Composites One (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and CCP Composites (N. Kansas City, Mo.) on October 8-9. Over 40 manufacturers from across the country attended presentations regarding: rapid prototyping and tool building; principles of vacuum infusion; closed cavity bag molding; and low temperature cure epoxy for infusion. Live demonstrations provided an ideal opportunity for attendees to work with new materials and methods. Vendors from Chemtrend, 3M Marine, Vectorply, Airtech, MVP, Pro-Set and Composites One offered invaluable information and examples of current composite manufacturing processes and materials. Brett Kovach with Intreped Powerboats attended the workshop and commented on how informative the program was: "We are always looking for new technologies, and being able to view the process hands-on is much better than reading about it." The workshop also included a tour of JRL Ventures/Marine Concepts Sarasota facility. Nancy Kieffer, VP at Plastics Unlimited, was amazed at the scope of the PaR 5-Axis CNC Mill at the JRL Ventures facility.
According to attendees this cooperative workshop was a success and offered constructive education that enables manufacturers to expand their composite capabilities, skills and knowledge needed to continue to build and advance their techniques and business.
