Publisher and show organizer JEC Group (Paris, France) entered the American market in late 2012 with its inaugural JEC Americas show, Nov. 7-9 in Boston, Mass., colocated with the Industrial Fabric Association International (IFAI) show.
Best known for its Paris-based JEC Europe show, JEC said its Americas event drew 306 exhibitors and 4,159 visitors from 36 U.S. states and 53 countries. Frédérique Mutel, JEC’s president and CEO, says, “The North American composites market is in full swing. North America represented $35 billion in value in 2011. It is the largest market in the world. Largely through the efforts of composites industry pioneers, the region is continuously innovating new composites breakthroughs.”
As it does at its other shows, JEC presented Innovation Awards in a variety of categories. Winners included Hexcel (Stamford, Conn.) in the Aeronautics category for its HexMC; Edison2 LLC (Lynchburg, Va.) in the Automotive category for its automobile structures (see “Focus on Design,” p. 44); Chomarat (Anderson, S.C.) in the Carbon category for its bi-angle reinforcements; MVC Solucoes em Plasticos (São José dos Pinhais, Brazil) in the Construction category for its use of sandwich structures in schools; MPD Designs (Chiasso, Switzerland) in the Energy category for its Solar Floating Resort; Swift Engineering (San Clemente, Calif.) in the Process category for its high-speed cure process; Connora Technologies (Hayward, Calif.) in the Recycling category for its RecyclamineT epoxy hardener; CGTech (Irvine, Calif.) in the Software category for its VERICUT machine programming software; and Cervélo Bicycles (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) in the Sports & Leisure category for its light-weight Cervelo Rca road bike.
