North Coast Composites (Cleveland, Ohio) reported on Feb. 24 that it has been chosen by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI, Tel Aviv, Israel) to produce the composite rudder for the Gulfstream G250 business jet using resin transfer molding (RTM).

The total contract of 250 rudders is valued at $6 million. The carbon fiber/epoxy G250 rudder integrates lightning strike protection, net-molded ribs and spars, and rudder skins into a co-molded, single-piece, solid-laminate structure.

North Coast reports that this complex part is the first of its kind and could only be accomplished by using specially designed RTM tooling and a streamlined, highly efficient manufacturing process. North Coast is proud that IAI has the confidence in North Coast to not only design and build the tooling, but also to produce the rudder assemblies in production.
