Bulk molding compounds (BMC) and sheet molding compounds (SMC) manufactured by IDI Composites International (Noblesville, Ind.) have been selected by Topp Industries Inc. (Rochester, Ind.) for several wastewater treatment applications. The latter is a leading manufacturer of lift stations, which are used to help transport liquid wastewater from homes and businesses to treatment plants. IDI's composite materials were chosen for their resistance to corrosion, chemicals, and atmospheric conditions, which enable Topp lift stations to last longer than traditional stations made of steel and concrete. Components such as manway flanges and top and bottom cover plate materials are made in a closed molding process, using IDI's SMC and BMC.
