IDI Composites International (Noblesville, Ind.) has announced the acquisition of bulk molding compound (BMC) and sheet molding compound (SMC) manufacturing facilities that were formerly part of Menzolit Compounds International GmbH (Heidelberg/Rohrback, Germany) from Menzolit’s parent company, German strategic investor Senata. The acquired plants are located in Vineuil, France, and Shanghai, China. The acquisition effectively doubles IDI’s output and reportedly makes it the world’s largest supplier of thermoset molding compounds. The acquisition is expected to result in faster turnaround for IDI’s customers in Continental Europe and the Asia/Pacific region.
