Reuters reported on Nov. 20 that carbon fiber manufacturer Hexcel (Dublin, Calif.) is in talks to supply composite materials for China's project to develop and manufacture large commercial jets, according to a senior executive of the company.

China is in the midst of an effort to begin building large commercial jets, thereby minimizing its dependence on Boeing and Airbus. Thierry Merlot, vice president for sales and marketing at Hexcel, told Reuters that the company had supplied a small quantity of composite materials to China's domestically developed ARJ21 regional jet and may supply materials for an extended version of the regional jet.
