On Nov. 28, the multinational chemicals supplier HELM AG (Hamburg, Germany) announced a marketing agreement with consultant Michael Effing, CEO of AMAC GmbH (Aachen, Germany), to offer advice and help promote and further develop distribution of product to the European market from the Jushi Group´s (Zhejiang, China) thermoplastic glass fiber business. The cooperative effort is focused on Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Benelux region. As of Dec. 1, Michael Effing, who launched AMAC in October, began work on Jushi Group's complete thermoplastic product portfolio (chopped strands and LFT roving).
As part of the European thrust, Jushi Group will open a new production plant in Northern Egypt in 2013. With a total planned annual production capacity of 200,000 metric tonnes (440.9 million lb) will be introduced in two phases. Phase 1, at 80,000 metric tonnes (176.4 million lb), will be complete in 2013. The plant will facilitate Jushi´s export business to Europe as well as serve the Middle East and India. In this factory, Jushi will produce a full range of chopped strands and LFT roving thermoplastics exclusively developed for and dedicated to the European marketplace. This plant is Jushi´s first investment outside of China, as well as its first step toward globalization.
"Jushi is coming closer to the European customers," explains Mr. Zhang, Jushi's CEO and president. "The main production focus of our new facility near Cairo will be on thermoplastics for applications in the automotive, electrical and electronics sectors, and in the building and construction market segments." Direct contact in technical service and application development also will be organized for European customers. "We intend to offer our customers a new capacity in proximity to the European market.”
HELM AG has been the exclusive distributor for Jushi in Germany, Austria and Switzerland for many years. Now, HELM will also assume distribution for large global and regional accounts in thermoplastic chopped strands and LFT rovings in Benelux. Ekkehard Kloevekorn, senior executive of the HELM Fiberglass business, comments: "We are very enthusiastic about the further growth of Jushi´s business in Europe." He continues, " I am looking forward to a long and successful relationship with Michael Effing in this function as well as a further strengthening of the HELM/Jushi relationship which began more than 10 years ago.”
Jushi's Zhang expressed confidence in Effing's abilities, citing as assets his "long-term industrial know-how and understanding as well as his broad knowledge of the composites market — especially his experience with the Chinese and European markets, with the different cultures, technologies and approaches."
Effing commented, "This cooperation, I believe, will bring high-quality technology and service for the innovative product and application developments of our customers. I am very happy to contribute to the cooperation of HELM and Jushi in this new business setting."
Headquartered in the Tongxiang Economic Development Zone, Jushi Group is reportedly one of the world’s largest producers of fiberglass reinforcements. With three production bases in Tongxiang, Jiujiang, and Chengdu, and total assets of over $1.3 billion (USD), Jushi’s ISO 9001-certified facilities can produce more than 900,000 metric tonnes (1.98 billion lb) of fiberglass per year.
