Gurit wins contract to supply materials for wind blades

Gurit has signed a supply agreement with BTW Boading Tianwei Group to supply prepreg and kitted foam materials for wind turbine blades in China.

Gurit (Wattwil, Switzerland), a supplier of high-performance composite materials, has signed a supply agreement with BTW Boading Tianwei Group to supply prepreg and kitted foam materials for wind turbine blades in China. The contract, valued at about CHF 5 million, covers 18 months. Products will be produced at Gurit's facility in Tianjin, China.

BTW Boading Tianwei Group is located in Hebei Province and reportedly has become a leading Chinese producer of wind turbines. Its product range comprises 1.2-, 1.5- and 2.5-MW wind power generating units. Rudolf Gerber, general manager Wind Energy at Gurit, said of the contract, "Our prepreg and foam core materials products are chosen because of their proven performance and our ability to produce and supply them locally."
