Gurit (Zullwil, Switzerland) a global supplier of composite materials, engineering, tooling, parts and systems, will expand its global balsa wood production capacity in 2016. The planned increase in output will be achieved by layout optimization at the company’s existing production facility in Ecuador and through an investment into a new balsa wood production operation within its existing core material factory in Tianjin, China. This will increase technical capacity by 35%.
Balsa wood production in Tianjin is scheduled to start at the beginning of April 2016. The new Chinese presence of balsa wood manufacturing will provide more customer proximity and flexibility for the company’s Asian customer base.
“This capacity expansion intends to provide an answer to the market in terms of volume availability, readiness and the company’s unique positioning through its wide core material offering,” said Sergio Sesa, general manager of Gurit Balsa.
