The Gazette newspaper in Gloucestershire, U.K., reported on Feb. 12 that GKN Aerospace (East Cowes, Isle of Wight, U.K.) has applied for construction of a wing manufacturing plant in Easter Compton, U.K. GKN Aerospace, which paid  £136 million in September 2008 for the nearby Airbus aircraft wing manufacturing facility in Filton, U.K., has submitted an application to the South Gloucestershire Council so work can begin on its new wing facility.

GKN announced last month that it had plans to expand its Filton site, where it has 1,500 workers, and open a new dedicated composite manufacturing facility in Easter Compton. The new site is expected to produce the forthcoming Airbus A350 XWB wing trailing edge and wing spar and assemblies. Once the facility is up and running, up to 300 staff could be transferred from Filton to work in Easter Compton.
