Firehole Technologies Inc. (Laramie, Wyo., USA), a developer of advanced composite analysis and simulation software applications, on Oct. 19 announced the acquisition of CompositePro from Peak Composites Inc. (Arvada, Colo., USA). The acquisition of CompositePro will allow Firehole to enhance and extend the composite design and analysis capabilities already available in its Helius portfolio, making it easier for structural engineers to work with composite materials.
"Our goal is to provide the structural engineer with the most comprehensive, easy to use suite of tools for composite design and analysis in the market," said Jerad Stack, Firehole’s CEO. "Helius:MCT addresses composite behavior with Multi-scale modeling and progressive failure simulation. The addition of CompositePro allows us to address the needs of the designer at the other end of the product development cycle."
Firehole will build on the solid foundation that exists today in CompositePro by leveraging the advanced functionality for composite failure analysis from the Helius portfolio and adding support for additional computer platforms. CompositePro will continue to fill the void between hand calculations and that of full structural finite element analysis by providing functionality such as composite micromechanics and classical laminate analysis, as well as design tools for composite plates, sandwich panels, beams and tubes.

In other Firehole news, NEi Software (Westminster, Calif., USA), a developer of Nastran Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software, and Firehole Technologies have announced a software integration and distribution partnership. The partnership will first focus on leveraging Firehole's multiscale composites analysis technology, Helius:MCT, to deliver an advanced composites analysis application to users of the NEi Nastran FEA package.
"The integration of Firehole's composites simulation technology is a continuation of our commitment to provide best-in-class composites analysis capabilities within NEi Nastran," said David Weinberg, CEO of NEi Software. Integrating Firehole's Helius:MCT directly into NEi Nastran will enhance the composite-specific toolset with its constituent-based analysis technology. Helius:MCT excels in modeling of composite failure because it decomposes the stress and strain fields of a composite material into the stress and strain fields for the fiber and matrix components, allowing better insight into the root of composite failure.
Helius:MCT will form the core technology behind NEi's Advanced Composites module, anticipated for release with NEi Nastran V10.0. Available with other commercial FEA packages as an add-on, this will be the first time Helius:MCT will be integrated directly within the base FEA package.
