Energy management software

Agentis Energy (Elmhurst, Ill.) has introduced a Web-based interface, called the Acuity Solution, that enables plastics processors and other manufacturers to monitor the energy consumption of every electrically powered device in the plant and use the information to save on energy costs. After raw material, energy is typically the second- or third-largest operating cost for a processing plant. The software tracks kilowatt-hours of electricity usage in real time on a per-device or per-job run basis, and calculates costs according to whether the usage took place during the electrical utility's peak or off-peak times. The data-gathering units in the Acuity Solution are sensors that can be installed on any electricity-using device in a processing plant, including all of the equipment making up a production line. The sensors are connected to multichannel nodes, which convert the information  wirelessly over the Internet to the Acuity server. The company's specific energy consumption data can then be viewed through a secure connection via any Web browser.
