New and expanded demand of Nomex brand products manufactured by DuPont (Wilmington, Del., USA) using Sontara fabric is reported in a new market survey released by Eldib Engineering & Research Inc. (EER, Berkeley Heights, N.J., USA). Sontara spunlaced fabrics are available commercially using Nomex. Nomex brand paper products are made from meta-aramids (poly meta-phenylene-terephthamide). The 2009 market study was carried out by a team of researchers headed by Dr. Andrew Eldib, president of Eldib Engineering & Research Inc.
The Eldib study reports on E88 and E89 fabrics. The calendered type E88C is 100 percent Nomex. The E88 is used for electrical insulation in motors and the E89 is used as thermal liner in fire turnout gear. According to the Eldib study, pricing factors include style, weight, ounce per yard and width. Spunlaced Nomex fabrics are priced in square yards. The E88 products sold vary in price from $2.12 to $3.81/sq yd. The E89 prices also vary according to weight per square yard and vary from $3.97 to $7.59/sq yd.
The Eldib 2009 industrial marketing research report identifies companies using spunlaced Nomex fabrics, prices and suppliers, including names and addresses of distributors.
