DSM Composite Resins (Schauffhausen, Switzerland) has announced the
launch of an engineering study that could lead to a large expansion of
its manufacturing facilities in Compiègne, France, where it makes
unsaturated polyester resins.
“A financial investment of this scale in our Compiegne plant represents a long-term commitment by DSM to the region,” explains Simon Bloem, site manager for the Compiegne manufacturing facility, “A great part of the millions of euros invested in this plant will benefit the local economy, as contracts are to be agreed with local companies to carry out the necessary expansion work. In addition to the immediate cash boost to the local economy, should the expansion go ahead, this investment will result in increased activity by DSM in the region for many years to come.”
DSM cites an increasing focus on innovation and specialty products as reason for the expansion. Final approval of expansion is expected in Q4 2008; expansion will be completed by late 2009 or early 2010.
