Cytec (formerly Umeco, Heanor, U.K.) reports that it has recently extended its Lloyd’s Register Type Approval by adding its flame-retarded VTM264FRB epoxy and MTM82S phenolic structural resin systems to a list which includes the company’s MTM57 and VTM260 Series epoxy resin systems.

The certification of the two new resin systems, says the company, means that Cytec is well-placed to serve the needs of the commercial marine sector, having already proven its value in the challenging competition yacht, and luxury and pleasure craft sectors.

Cytec VTM264FRB is a low-temperature molding epoxy prepreg resin that can be used in conjunction with a combination of E-Glass and carbon fiber reinforcements. Cytec MTM82S is a medium-temperature molding phenolic prepreg resin that can be used in conjunction with lightweight and heavyweight E-Glass fiber reinforcements.

In a portion of the marine market, there is a requirement to meet fire regulations, and this is where both the VTM264FRB and MTM82 resin systems can be used to meet current standards.
