Carbon Fiber 2007 conference taking shape

By | July 10, 2007

CompositesWorld, publisher of High-Performance Composites and Composites Technology magazines, has announced that the agenda is nearly set for Carbon Fiber 2007, which will be held Dec. 5-7, 2007, at the Marriott Washington Hotel in Washington, DC. Co-chairs for this year’s conference are Peter W. Oswald, vice president of sales & marketing at Toho Tenax America, and Anthony (Tony) Roberts, industry consultant.

This international conference is designed for executives from leading fiber suppliers, end users, fiber converters, prepreggers, and composites parts manufacturers to discuss the current supply and demand situation for carbon fiber as well as the future prospect for growth of new carbon fiber composite applications, given the continuing tight supply situation for some grades of fiber.

This year’s conference marks its inauguration under the CompositesWorld banner. “The composites industry’s response has been remarkable,” said Scott Stephenson, conference director. “We have already confirmed 24 speakers for the main conference on Dec. 6-7 covering everything from the outlook for aerospace and commercial aviation, to sporting goods and the growing demand from industrial markets such as deepwater oil platforms, construction, CNG and hydrogen storage tanks, as well as marine and automotive applications. We also have a session on new technology and production processes to streamline manufacturing and reduce overall composite part fabrication costs.”

In addition, there will be two pre-conference seminars on Dec. 5. In the morning, “Wind Energy – Preparing for Life after ‘Peak Oil’, will be presented by Chris Red, editor and VP of Market Research for Composite Market Reports with assistance from Chuck Segal, managing director of Omnia LLC. The afternoon session will be: “Carbon Fiber & Precursor Outlook 2008-2015,” presented by Tony Roberts, industry consultant, and Chris Levan, manager of Technical Services, Carbon Fiber Solutions.
