An alert reader noticed that in CT February 2009, our story entitled “Composites ride and support the rails” (p. 37-41) contained erroneous English/metric conversions. On p. 40, under the subhead “Innovative hot rail cover,” we show the conversion for 0.250-inch as 64 mm. The correct conversion is 6.35 mm, which rounds up to 6.4 mm. We left out the decimal point. In the next measurement set, CT listed the conversion for 8 inches as 6 mm. It should be 203 mm. CT regrets the errors.
