A sharp-eyed reader spotted a mistake in our most recent previous issue (HPC May 2011). Our “Focus on Design” feature, titled “Carrier-capable, all-composite external fuel tank,” featured a photo on p. 80 of a jet fighter about to touch down on the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson. The plane in question was incorrectly identified. While it is an FA-18, it is not the Super Hornet, which has a rectangular air inlet design (the Super Hornet is pictured and correctly identified on the May issue’s cover). The jet on p. 80 has “D” shaped inlets, which marks it as the FA-18 Hornet, the Super Hornet’s older brother. HPC regrets the error.
