CompositesWorld Expo presentation to focus on SMC materials, processes

Rob Seats, product manager at Ashland Performance Materials, is giving a presentation at the CompositesWorld Expo Technical Conference on sheet molding compound (SMC) materials and processes.

CompositesWorld, publisher of High-Performance Composites and Composites Technology magazines, has announced that Rob Seats, product manager at Ashland Performance Materials (Columbs, Ohio), is giving a presentation at the CompositesWorld Expo Technical Conference on sheet molding compound (SMC) materials and processes.

This presentation will provide an introduction to SMC followed by a brief discussion about some of the newer technologies being used with this engineered composite material. Materials that are used in formulating SMC and how they affect the performance of the final composite will be reviewed. The processes of compounding, molding, and bonding SMC components into final assemblies will be presented. An overview of new technologies including low mass nanocomposite SMC and resin systems based on renewable resourced or bio-based products will demonstrate the versatility of SMC and the future of this composite material.

The CompositesWorld Expo will be Sept. 28-30 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel & Convention Center in the Chicago suburb of Schaumburg, Ill. The conference, Sept. 28-29, overlaps with the Expo, Sept. 29-30. The CompositesWorld Expo Technical Conference will focus on principles of design and manufacture of composite materials. It features two tracks, one for manufacturing professionals who are new to composites, and the other for composites manufacturing veterans.
