CompositesWorld Expo is pleased to announce that Steve Luby, president and CEO of VISTAGY Inc. (Waltham, Mass., USA), will open the Advanced track of the CompositesWorld Expo Technical Conference with a presentation titled, "Realizing the Full Potential of Composites Across Industries." Luby founded VISTAGY in 1991 and has helped pioneer the efficient use of composites in a variety of industries, including aerospace, high-performance automotive, marine and wind energy.

The CompositesWorld Expo will be Sept. 28-30 in Schaumburg, Ill., and is comprised of a two-track conference (Sept. 28-29) overlapping with the expo (Sept. 29-30). The CompositesWorld Expo Technical Conference will focus on principles of design and manufacture of composite materials. It features two tracks, one for manufacturing professionals who are new to composites, and the other for composites manufacturing veterans.

The Introductory track will introduce those familiar with traditional materials-engineering industries, such as metalworking, to the properties of fiber-reinforced composites. Other principles covered will include CAD/CAM design and manufacturing with composites and the fabrication processes that work best for various designs, including compression and infusion molding; resin transfer molding (RTM), vacuum-assisted RTM (VARTM) and light RTM (LRTM); prepreg with autoclave curing; and other consolidation processes.

The Advanced track will include an overview of FEA design and manufacturing software, such as CATIA and FiberSIM, and how it can be integrated into product development and tooling systems for advanced composite design and processing, including complex ply books, automated fiber placement (AFP) and automated tape laying (ATL) systems.
