The Composites Working Group, part of the Bureau of Industry and Security within the U.S. Department of Commerce, is looking for composites industry professionals and academicians to volunteer for service with the group. The Composites Working Group now is addressing nanotube regulations specifically related to export control. David Manger, compliance manager at Toray Composites America Inc. (Tacoma, Wash.) and leader of the group, says the organization anticipates continuous (>11 mm) carbon nanofiber construction in the near future and sees potential threats to national security should the material be used to build missile, bomb vessel and other weapon components. The group also is evaluating regulations for used and recycled carbon fiber. For more information or to volunteer, contact David Manger, Tel.: (253) 875-1318; E-mail: dmanger@toraycompam.com.
