Composites One will distribute MIRteq materials in North America

Australia-based MIRteq has chosen Composites One to distribute its fiberglass technology in North America.

MIRteq (Newcastle, Australia) announced on Aug. 6 that it has appointed Composites One (Arlington Heights, Ill., USA) as its exclusive distributor in the United States of America and British Columbia in Canada.

This distributor appointment is the first by MIRteq in any geography. It provides MIRteq with broad access to market and an ability to service its early adopter clients and, because of Composite One’s reach in North America, the partnership is expected to produce substantial opportunities in a short period of time.

Composites One vice president of marketing Greg Shymske said, “We have worked with MIRteq over the last six months and have invested in the technology’s deployment because we expect that it will expand the composites industry. We are excited about their excellent growth potential.”

In February 2010, MIRteq exhibited with Composites One at COMPOSITES 2010 presented by the American Composites Manufacturers Association (AMCA).

At the core of MIRteq’s patented technology are its proprietary chemicals and processes that are used to treat and modify the surface of fiberglass, creating a chemical bond between the glass and a compatible resin matrix. This process substitutes standard fibreglass textile reinforcing with short micro-fibres. MIRteq’s polymerisable liquid composites can be poured, pumped or sprayed, and once cured can be drilled, tapped and CNC machined. For the first time the predictable properties of Micro-Fibre Infused Resin composites allows for computational engineering for strength, aesthetics, and for the design of more complex shaped components.
