Coast Composites introduced its new 24,000 ft2/2,230m2 Composite Center and custom 13 ft by 50 ft (4m by 15m) autoclave on Feb. 6 at an open house attended by about 80 industry associates. Coast is now part of the AIP Aerospace group, a holding company headquartered at Coast’s facility in Santa Ana, Calif.

Paul Walsh, chief executive of the Tooling Division for AIP, welcomed guests to the opening of the center, which is dedicated to designing and building tooling for large, complex composite parts. Tooling on display included sizeable molds being used to lay up carbon composite mandrels for automated fiber placement of fuselage sections.

Carlos Urquiza, field representative from Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez’s office, and Councilman Vince Sarmiento from the City of Santa Ana also spoke appreciatively of the company and its expansion, and the resultant addition of new, steady jobs in the area.
