The Item (Sumter, S.C., USA) newspaper and website reported on June 11 that a carbon fiber manufacturing firm is apparently considering locating a manufacturing plant in the Sumter area.
The report says the Sumter County Council approved a resolution authorizing an incentive agreement with the company. A county official said during discussion after the meeting that the company manufactures carbon fiber.County Council vice chairman Eugene Baten said the incentives aim to give the company another reason to come to Sumter, without giving away too much. "We try to make sure we're in a win-win situation" for Sumter and the company, Baten said. Schwedler said he could not release information about the kind of jobs that could be available or when the company might release its name.
