COMPOSITESWORLD, publisher of High-Performance Composites and Composites Technology magazines, reminds you that the early-bird discounted registration deadline is Thursday, Oct. 30 for its Carbon Fiber 2008 conference.  The conference will be held Dec. 8-10, 2008, at the Charleston Marriott Hotel in Charleston, S.C., USA.

This international conference is designed for executives from leading fiber suppliers, end users, fiber converters, prepreggers, and composites parts manufacturers to discuss the current supply and demand situation for carbon fiber as well as the future prospect for growth of new carbon fiber composite applications. Co-chairs for this year’s conference are Peter W. Oswald, vice president of sales & marketing at Toho Tenax America, and Anthony (Tony) Roberts, AJR Consultant LLC.

“The next couple of years could bring some very interesting developments for the carbon fiber composite industry,” said Scott Stephenson, conference director. “The combination of recent unprecedented growth in the commercial aviation market with recent record high energy costs, has created growth opportunities across many different sectors. Fiber and prepreg suppliers have aligned their product portfolios to these sectors and we will also have at least one new fiber manufacturer entering the supply chain in 2009. Now if you try to factor in current airplane delivery delays and very recent free-fall of oil prices, the supply and demand situation gets a little more complicated. It’s going to be interesting to see how it all plays out, and I think this year’s agenda should give attendees quite a bit of insight into this,” concluded Stephenson.

Some of this year’s presentations include:

- Keynote Presentation — Second Generation Materials: Carbon Fiber vs. Sponge Iron, Rob Klawonn, President, Toho Tenax America

-The Carbon Fiber Industry: How and Why the Future Will Be Different than the Past, Steven Carmichael, Director of Sales & Marketing, Grafil/Mitsubishi Rayon Corp.

- The Impact of the Rising Price of Oil and China on the Carbon Fiber Market, David Service, CEO, Bluestar Fibres Co. Ltd.

-How Do You Start a (Successful) Carbon Fiber Business? Dee James (D.J.) DeLong, President, DeLong & Associates LLC and Mustafa Yilmaz, General Manager, AKSA Acrylic and Carbon Fibers

In addition, there will be two pre-conference seminars on Dec. 8. In the morning, the "Outlook for Composites in Commercial Aircraft Structures and Interiors," will be presented by Chris Red, editor and VP of Market Research for Composite Market Reports. The afternoon session will be, "When and Where Will Carbon Fiber Be Used?" presented by Tony Roberts, Principal, AJR Consultant LLC and Chris Levan, Manager of Technical Services, Carbon Fiber Solutions.
