High-performance technical textiles source METYX Composites (a div. of Telateks AS, Istanbul, Turkey) and resin manufacturer/distributor Scott Bader (Wollaston, Northamptonshire, U.K.) have signed an agreement that makes the latter the exclusive distributor of METYX Composites products in France. The deal, announced Jan. 19, provides METYX the essential infrastructure it needs to reach the French composites market, giving composites manufacturers there more immediate access to METYX Composites products and a wide range of customer services. With the addition of Scott Bader in France, METYX now maintains a network of distributors in 24 countries.

Novator (Stockholm, Sweden) will supply its Portable M-Series orbital drilling machines to Airbus’ St. Eloi, France facility, under a new contract worth SEK 4 million ($566,000 USD). The machines will be used to assemble pylons for the Airbus A350 XWB. In orbital drilling, the cutter revolves in a mechanically forced eccentric movement while simultaneously rotating around its own axis. The result, claims the company, is lower thrust force, resulting in faster, higher-quality holes, when holes must be drilled “dry,” that is, without the use of coolant.

Hydraulic press manufacturer Pinette Emidecau Industries (PEI, Chalon Sur Saone, France) acquired Herz System-und Anlagentechnik GmbH  (Zernien, Germany) in late 2009. Herz is a well-known builder of automotive production equipment and machinery. The acquisition will enable PEI to offer expanded services to its OEM customers from a location in Germany, and facilitate sales and service activities in central and eastern European regions as well.

Waterjet manufacturers Tecnocut SpA (Bergamo, Italy) and Jet Edge Inc. (St. Michael, Minn.) announced on Feb. 8 a strategic partnership under which Tecnocut will share its innovative IKC 5-axis waterjet cutting technology with Jet Edge and, in exchange, Jet Edge will share its 90,000 psi (6,200 bar) waterjet intensifier pump technology with Tecnocut. The companies also have agreed to partner on a number of R&D projects related to waterjet pump design, multiaxis cutting and robotics.

Assembly Guidance (Chelmsford, Mass.) has received a launch order for five Multitasking KitGuides from American GFM (Chesapeake, Va.) for an undisclosed composite aircraft production program. The KitGuides use Assembly Guidance’s LASERGUIDE projectors to outline the location of each ply in a logical sequence for a kit, indicating the unloading sequence of plies on the cutter table for two parts simultaneously, thus doubling American GFM’s unloading rate. The system eliminates the need for cutter operators to read ply maps or sort plies from labels. Delivery and installation is scheduled for the second quarter of 2010.
