The Newport, R.I.-based yacht- and boatbuilding school has scheduled open houses at its Newport and Bristol campuses, for Nov. 8 and 15, respectively. Attendees will have the opportunity view the school's educational curricula, ask questions, and investigate boatbuilding industry career tracks.
Of interest to aspiring builders of composite boats, the Composites Technology & Marine Systems Open House, scheduled for 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Nov. 15, at the IYRS Bristol Campus (253 Franklin St., Bristol, R.I.), will offer individuals interested in pursing career tracks at IYRS a chance to step inside the school's workshops and lab facilities, meet IYRS instructors and participate in a Q&A session on the school's applications process and financial aid program.
The Composite Technology Program trains students in the theory and practice of working with composite materials — instruction applicable not only for boatbuilding, but also for aerospace, construction, automotive and wind energy applications.
This Open House also will cover the school's Marine Systems program, where students learn to install, maintain and troubleshoot onboard systems on boats.
Interested parties also may attend an Open House on Nov. 8 (2:00 to 5:00 p.m.,) inside Restoration Hall at the school's Newport campus (449 Thames St., Newport, R.I.) — home to IYRS's 20-month Boatbuilding and Restoration program, which focuses on wooden boatbuilding.
