Element Material Technology (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) recently announced the acquisition of U.S.-based Sherry Laboratories (Daleville, Ind.), reportedly one of the largest independent materials testing businesses in the U.S. The transaction added nearly 300 technicians and 10 facilities to Element’s existing network of 30 laboratories and, according to Element, makes it the largest dedicated materials testing company in the U.S. Sherry’s lab provides a broad range of testing services to the aerospace, oil and gas, and power-generation industries. The 66-year-old company’s laboratories support more than 6,000 clients throughout Ohio, Indiana, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Its Nadcap-accredited facilities have been approved by aerospace prime contractors, including Boeing, Rolls-Royce, Honeywell, Bombardier and GE Aviation, which further adds to Element’s own approvals held across a wide range of laboratories. The Sherry acquisition is the latest in a number of significant Element acquisitions in the past 15 months.
Previous takeovers include MAR-TEST (Cincinnati, Ohio), Detroit Testing Laboratories (Warren, Mich.) and U.K.-based polymer engineering and testing specialists Materials Engineering Research Laboratory Ltd. (MERL, Hitchin, Hertfordshire).
