Wind energy technology firm Vestas Wind Systems A/S (Randers, Denmark) will establish a new research and development facility in the U.S. The research center will be operational by 2009 and will employ as many as 80 people when fully established in 2010. Finn Strøm Madsen, president of Vestas Technology R&D, says the decision is another step in the Vestas effort to expand its R&D activities, following establishment of facilities in Singapore and India and the creation of what the company says is the world’s largest wind power research center in Aarhus, Denmark. The location for the U.S. site has not been determined but likely will be near a major university, says Madsen.
