The Dutch university-based Nuon Solar Team won the annual Panasonic World Solar Challenge in late October when its sleek composites-intensive solar-powered electric racer crossed the finished line first in Adelaide, Australia. The car, dubbed Nuna4, a white, streamlined single-seater topped by an array of solar panels that supply electricity for the car’s electric motor, led the 3,000-km/1,864-mile race from its start in Darwin.
