On Dec. 2, 2007, Elbit Systems Ltd. (Haifa, Israel) announced that its subsidiary, Cyclone Aviation Products Ltd. (Karmiel, Israel) had been awarded a contract to supply the U.S. Navy with filament-wound, 330-gal fuel tanks for F-18 jet fighters. The first phase of the contract amounts to $2.4 million (USD); the total value is estimated at $60 million. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2009 and 2013. The composite fuel tanks will be designed to sustain damage that might occur in the event of aircraft carrier fires.
