Ashland Inc. (Columbus, Ohio) announced Nov. 15 that José Armando Aguirre has been named commercial director for Ashland Performance Materials, a commercial unit of Ashland Inc., in South America. He will report to Ted Harris, president, Performance Materials, and will serve as a member of the global Performance Materials Leadership Team, as well as Ashland’s South America Leadership Team.
In this role, Aguirre will be responsible for leading Performance Materials’ commercial strategy in South America and will have direct responsibility for the sales and marketing team in the region. He replaces Andrew Beer, who is returning to the U.S. following his appointment to the newly created position of vice president, global marketing and business development for Performance Materials.
"We are excited to welcome José Aguirre to the team. His experience in establishing new businesses, bringing new products to market and providing strong customer value propositions will clearly help accelerate our growth in South America,” says Harris.
“I was very happy to spend almost three years in Brazil. With the arrival of a professional with the credentials of José Aguirre, APM reiterates its commitment to support the growth of the Brazilian industry,” says Beer.
Brazil’s composites market is very dynamic and challenging, but recent investments in infrastructure within the country have led to numerous opportunities for Ashland and its broad portfolio of composite resins, gelcoats and structural adhesives.
“Our primary focus in the region is to build a strong foundation for our operations so that we can pursue new opportunities as a result of Brazil’s growth and development. We are positioning ourselves to meet the exacting demands of the regional market for technology, technical services and quality of supply for composites applications," says Aguirre. A native of Brazil, Aguirre joined Ashland in 1991 and most recently served as director, industrial water treatment applications for Ashland Water Technologies in Latin America. Aguirre holds a degree in chemical engineering from Federal University in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, and has completed post-graduate work in petrochemical process at the University of Bologna in Urbino, Italy.
