Acellent Technologies Inc. (Sunnyvale, Calif.) has been selected by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI, Sacheon, South Korea) as the preferred supplier for structural health monitoring (SHM) systems for its next generation Korea Future Fighter (KF-X) Program.

Acellent’s unique approach to SHM is centered on its patented SMART Layer sensor network. The sensor network is reportedly able to adapt to virtually any complex structural geometry. Acellent provides a complete systematic approach to SHM, and designs and manufactures all components of the SHM system, which includes proprietary data acquisition hardware and data analysis software that is used to collect data from the sensor networks installed on the aircraft structural components. Acellent’s SMART Layer technology can easily be integrated into new or existing structures in order to automate inspection and maintenance procedures. Acellent manufactures structural health monitoring products for the evaluation of structural integrity, and offers three categories of products: SMART Layer sensors, diagnostic hardware, and damage detection Software Suites. These products work hand in hand to function as a complete system solution for structural health monitoring. Acellent will supply SHM systems to monitor damage and load in composite structures of the KF-X aircraft.
