A380 production facing possible delays

French news service AFP reports that Airbus faces additional production delays for the A380 and that it might not be able to deliver the 25 planes promised in 2009.

French news service AFP reported on May 5 that Airbus faces more production delays for its A380 superjumbo jetliner and might not be able to deliver the 25 planes promised in 2009. AFP quoted German business magazine Wirtschafts-Woche, which cited a letter by Airbus CEO Thomas Enders to customers and company sources.

The report said there were also doubts about whether Airbus would achieve its target of producing four planes per month. Enders, the report said, has ordered a fundamental review of the A380 program, it added.

The report cited as reasons for the delay issues with components produced by suppliers as well as requirements by airlines concerning interior design, which makes production more complex.
