3A Composites invests in new US foam extrusion line

Brisk demand and launch of new AIREX T10 product drive capacity increase for extruded AIREX core materials.

3A Composites Core Materials (Sins, Switzerland) reports that it will further expand the production capacities of its AIREX Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) core materials. In addition to the ongoing expansion of extrusion capacity in Switzerland, the company is now installing a new extrusion line at a US production location, which is to be operational in Q4 2015.

This expansion is driven by consistent high demand and the planned growth of current customers as well as new markets and applications, and the introduction of the new AIREX T10 product. Growth for extruded AIREX core materials is identified in the marine, aerospace and wind energy markets and also in the transportation and automotive industry where composites use is increasing.

3A Composites Core Materials CEO Roman Thomassin remarks, “Our new global production set-up with significantly increased capacities will form the basis for the successful growth of our business and our customer base. The state-of-the-art production equipment combined with the industrialized direct extrusion technology GEN2 will allow us to offer high-quality PET-based core material solutions at the cost effectiveness and supply flexibility that our markets demand from us, globally.”

3A Composites claims that bottle-grade PET-based core materials have gained used in myriad applications, offering a recyclable material also made using recycled content,  attractive price/performance ratio and simplicity of use. The material is produced in a continuous highly automated extrusion process, which reportedly assures a consistent, high level of quality.
