Dear Colleagues, Does anyone know, or is aware of a compnay looking to outsource or establish an offhore company, or in the process of a transfer/ start up an operation in Mexico. I need to make an economical analysis to see the benefits of a lower cost but skilled labor force. I visited an Aerospace facility last year along the border and they have a very nice composite manufacturing operation and they claim that the operating cost is about half of what it cost in the US due to its labor intensive nature and the quality of the work was excellent. Oscar, Not that I’m aware, and it depends of what you are looking for, I worked for Honeywell in Mexico and they have a small world class operation, the characteristic of this operation is that they designed the whole process and even rewrote the materials spec to build the parts, obviously Honeywell have all the resources in the world to do so. We understand Mexico is an option for cost reduction. The problem is that down the road companies will always look for ways of cutting cost and Mexico is basically an extension of the US with road access, and very good in processes with high labor content and high mix/low volume. Send me your e-mail, I might be able to share some experiences and cost if you are interested in setting up a process just across the border, you never know, maybe our paths will cross when we look down into outsourcing from Mexico. Dear Colleagues, After several months of research and working closely within the maquiladora environment (US companies with operations in Mexico), I have fallen in the conclusion that there is a huge opportunity in setting up an operation in Mexico and take advantage of the low wages. If your company’s senior management is considering this option or know of anyone looking to do so, please get in contact with me, or pass the my contact name. I have the experience and the information to do so; whether is a subcontract, shelter, or stand alone operation from green field or plant the process in an existing facility, turn key or transfer of process. Mexico has been put down in the international market due to “insecure” and I’m not going to debate this issues, however, you may ask other aerospace companies with composites suppliers such as GE, Honeywell, Lear, Gulfstream, Boeing, and many others why they are in Mexico, and you will learn first hand. My contact information is: E-mail: oscar_a_chacon@yahoo.com, Phone: 011 521 664 154-6794, and I’ll be more than happy to respond to your inquiries. Regards Oscar Chacon, PE

Subcontracting in Mexico Dear Colleagues, I have found a very good site in Mexico with a decent capacity and capability for composite manufacturing, this place can be accommodated to make turnkey parts or fulfill your contract manufacturing needs. The place can handle high mix low volume needs. If you are interested in learning more about this process, please send me an e-mail (oscar_a_chacon@yahoo.com) to setup a phone telecom and respond to your inquiries. Regards OC
